Village Newsletters & Resident Information

Welcome to the Village of Kent City, Kent County, Michigan. Please check out the information listed here and contact the Village Office with any questions or comments you may have. 

Property Maintenance
Refuse Waste: Granger is the exclusive contracted refuse company in the Village. They offer both waste removal and recycling services. 
Right of Way: The area between the sidewalk and street is public right-of-way. It is Village policy not to plant or place any object in the public right-of-way areas. 
Grass & Weeds: Village Ordinance prohibits grass, weeds, and other noxious growth exceeding 6" in height on all lands within 165 feet of a public street. 
Inoperable Vehicles: Inoperable or "Junk" vehicles - including those without current & valid license plate - are prohibited anywhere in the Village, unless stored in an enclosed building. 
Trash & Junk: Accumulation on nay property for more than 8 days is prohibited by Village Ordinance. All trash & junk must be in watertight receptacles. Metal or plastic cans must have tight fitting covers. 
Hazardous Household Waste: The Household Hazardous Waste Program is a free service provided by Kent County Dept. of Public Works. 
Yard Waste: The Village's Dept. of Public Works will pick up yard waste free of charge. The Yard Waste Policy can be viewed here
Leaf Pick-Up: The Village's Dept. of Public Works runs leaf pick-up each Fall from mid-October through the end of November or the first snowfall. Information for pick-up will be posted for each season. Questions can be directed to the Village Office. 

Parking
It is unlawful for any vehicle or trailer to be parked on a public street in the Village between 12:00 am and 6:00 am year-round. 

Village Safety
Police Protection: The Kent County Sheriff's Department provides law enforcement in Kent City and the surrounding area. 
Fire Protection: The Tyrone Township/Kent City Fire Department is located within the Village. Burn Permits are required before burning on any property and can be applied for online. 

Animals
It is unlawful for any dog/animal in the Village to be allowed to run loose or unattended to the extent of becoming a public nuisance or traffic hazard. 
Kent County requires all dogs over 4 months of age to have an annual license. Licenses can be purchased from the Tyrone Township Office or through Kent County Animal Shelter year-round. 

Resident Services
Wastewater Treatment Facility: Sewer bills are mailed the 1st of March, June, September & December. They are due the last day of the month they are mailed in. Post marks are not accepted. Payments can be made online, or by check or cash. 
Water: Residents have private wells.
